L’Eroica, which translates as ‘the heroes’ started in 1997 in Tuscany, Italy because of Giancarlo Brocci, who admired the values of past cycling so much that he wanted to reconnect others to the heritage that inspired much Italian history, literature, culture, and music.

Over 4500 riders of pre 1987 vintage bicycles arrived in Bakewell to take part in Eroica Britannia. L'Eroica, which translates to "The Heroes" originated in Italy in 1997 and has now become a global network of cycling events with the common appreciation of cycling's golden era. These riders of the British event had just completed the 100 mile course.
