BJP Portrait of Britain Award 2024
I’m excited to share that my portrait of Mark Hudson has been shortlisted for the British Journal of Photography’s Portrait of Britain Award 2024!
Earlier this year, Mark successfully challenged himself to cycle around the coast of the U.K. Before setting off, he reached out to see if I’d be interested in somehow documenting a part of the journey. We met on a dreary morning in Clevedon, just outside my home town of Bristol.
Although slightly surprised that I’d shown up with a medium format film camera, Mark took to the idea of making a portrait and was a joy to work with. We worked through the limited 9 frames on the roll, being extra careful not to slip over on the heavily silted beach. 20 minutes later and he was off on his way.
It’s an honour to reach the shortlist for the second year in a row and I am also very much honoured to be representing the long distance cycling community I’ve become a part of.
I look forward to discovering the work of the many other talented photographers who make up this years award.
Big thanks to the British Journal of Photography, Blue Coat Press and this years sponsor JCDecaux UK.
